Common Dreams and Their Meaning in Islam

Some dreams come to almost everyone. The symbols below are the ones people search for most, with the meanings the classical interpreters assigned to them.

Teeth Falling Out

The most searched dream of all. Teeth represent the members of a household: the front teeth the closest relatives, the molars the elders. A tooth falling into the hand means length of life for that relative; a tooth lost and not found points to a separation or a death in the family. Teeth growing back mean a family matter repaired.

For a person with no family concern, falling teeth are read as a debt about to be settled or words the dreamer regrets saying.

Snakes

A snake is an enemy who is close and not visible — the interpreters were specific that its hiding place tells you where. A snake in the house is an enemy among the household; in the garden, a neighbour; in the bed, an enemy in the marriage.

Killing a snake means victory over that person. Being bitten means harm already done. A large snake is a powerful enemy, a small one a weak one who still causes trouble.

Water

Clear water is life, faith and lawful provision. Drinking it means knowledge and healing. Rain over a whole town is mercy for everyone; rain over one house alone can mean a trial that touches that house.

Murky or dark water means confusion, an unlawful gain, or grief. Drowning means being overwhelmed by the world; being pulled out means repentance.

Flying

Flying at a comfortable height means travel, rising in rank, or a plan that succeeds. Flying without wings and with control is ambition being met.

Flying too high, or beyond sight, is read as reaching past what one can hold. Falling from flight means losing a position recently gained.

Fire

Fire in a house or a marketplace warns of dispute and division. Fire that burns without smoke is the tongue of a person causing harm.

Fire used to cook, to warm, or to light the way is provision and benefit. A lamp or a candle is guidance, and a lamp going out means the loss of a guide.

Money

Finding money means knowledge or provision arriving from an unexpected direction. Gold coins in a man's hand may mean a fine or a worry; in a woman's, adornment and joy.

Paper money is speech and dealings — receiving it means news, giving it means an obligation discharged. Losing money in a dream is usually read as words wasted rather than wealth lost.

The Dead

Seeing a dead relative alive and well means their state is good and they are content. Being given something by the dead is provision and blessing. Being asked for something by the dead is a call for charity or prayer on their behalf.

A dead person who appears distressed or who asks for water is read as needing supplication. Embracing the dead means length of life for the dreamer.

Marriage

For the unmarried, a wedding is a marriage approaching or a commitment being made. For the married, it is a new undertaking — a business, a move, a partnership.

A wedding with drums and loud noise is read differently from a quiet one: the first can point to worry, the second to blessing.

Falling

Falling from a height means a loss of standing, a mistake about to be made, or the end of a matter one has been holding up. Landing safely means the harm is avoided.

Falling into water is entering a matter with unknown depth. Falling into a pit is a plan of an enemy.

Being Chased

Being chased and escaping means safety from something the dreamer already senses. Being chased and caught means the matter reaches them. Being chased by an animal takes the meaning of that animal — a lion is authority, a dog an insolent person, a snake a hidden enemy.

Pregnancy and Babies

Pregnancy is something growing that is not yet visible: wealth accumulating, a project developing, or news held back.

A newborn is glad tidings and a new responsibility together. A crying baby is a matter that needs attention now; a calm baby is a matter settling on its own.

Reading This List

The interpreters read the same symbol differently for different people. A farmer who dreams of a snake dreamt of a snake; a person in a dispute dreamt of their opponent. Read the entry, then read your own situation against it.
