Duas for Anxiety, Stress and a Troubled Heart
Every human being faces moments of worry, grief and stress. Islam does not ask us to hide these feelings but to bring them to Allah, the One who calms hearts. The Prophet ﷺ taught us specific duas for exactly these moments, and reciting them with presence of heart brings remarkable peace.
The Dua of Distress
When gripped by anxiety, recite: O Allah, I am Your servant, my forelock is in Your hand, Your judgement upon me is just. I ask You by every name that is Yours to make the Quran the life of my heart and the removal of my grief. The Prophet ﷺ said Allah replaces such a person grief with joy.
Relief from Worry and Debt
A powerful morning and evening dua is: O Allah, I seek refuge in You from worry and grief, from weakness and laziness, from cowardice and miserliness, and from being overcome by debt and overpowered by men.
The Remembrance that Calms Hearts
Allah says that hearts find rest only in the remembrance of Allah. Keep your tongue busy with dhikr such as La hawla wa la quwwata illa billah, a treasure from the treasures of Paradise that lifts heavy burdens.
Trust in Allah Plan
Finally, remember that after hardship comes ease, as Allah promises twice in Surah ash-Sharh. Your anxiety is temporary, but Allah mercy is constant. Turn to Him, and He will never turn you away.
