Laylatul Qadr: Signs and How to Worship on the Night of Power
Laylatul Qadr, the Night of Power, is the greatest night of the year. Allah revealed an entire surah about it and described it as better than a thousand months, which is more than eighty-three years of worship. A believer who catches this night with faith and sincerity has their past sins forgiven.
When to Seek It
The Prophet ﷺ told us to search for Laylatul Qadr in the last ten nights of Ramadan, especially the odd nights: the 21st, 23rd, 25th, 27th and 29th. Since the exact night is hidden, strive in all ten to be certain you reach it.
The Signs of the Night
It is described as a calm and peaceful night, neither too hot nor too cold. The following morning the sun rises gently without strong rays. But do not wait for signs; rather, fill every one of the last ten nights with worship.
The Best Dua
Aisha asked the Prophet ﷺ what to say if she found the night, and he taught her: O Allah, You are Most Forgiving and You love forgiveness, so forgive me. Repeat this dua abundantly throughout the night.
How to Spend the Night
Pray the night prayer, recite and reflect on the Quran, make long sincere dua, give charity and seek forgiveness. Even if you cannot stay awake all night, worship in whatever portion you can, for the mercy of this night is vast.
