Dua for travel

سُبْحَانَ الَّذِي سَخَّرَ لَنَا هَذَا وَمَا كُنَّا لَهُ مُقْرِنِينَ وَإِنَّا إِلَى رَبِّنَا لَمُنْقَلِبُونَ

Transliteration

Subhanal-ladhi sakhkhara lana hadha wa ma kunna lahu muqrinin, wa inna ila Rabbina lamunqalibun

Translation

Glory be to Him Who has subjected this to us, and we could never have accomplished it ourselves. And indeed, to our Lord we shall return.

Quran 43:13-14, Muslim 1342

Dua when boarding a vehicle

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ، الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ، سُبْحَانَ الَّذِي سَخَّرَ لَنَا هَذَا

Transliteration

Bismillah, alhamdu lillah, subhanal-ladhi sakhkhara lana hadha

Translation

In the name of Allah, praise be to Allah. Glory be to Him Who has subjected this to us.

Dua when entering a town

اللَّهُمَّ رَبَّ السَّمَاوَاتِ السَّبْعِ وَمَا أَظْلَلْنَ، أَسْأَلُكَ خَيْرَ هَذِهِ الْقَرْيَةِ وَخَيْرَ أَهْلِهَا، وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ شَرِّهَا

Transliteration

Allahumma Rabbas-samawatis-sab'i wa ma azlaln, as'aluka khayra hadhihil-qaryati wa khayra ahliha, wa a'udhu bika min sharriha

Translation

O Allah, Lord of the seven heavens and all they overshadow, I ask You for the good of this town and the good of its people, and I seek refuge in You from its evil.

Dua when stopping at a place

أَعُوذُ بِكَلِمَاتِ اللَّهِ التَّامَّاتِ مِنْ شَرِّ مَا خَلَقَ

Transliteration

A'udhu bikalimatillahit-tammati min sharri ma khalaq

Translation

I seek refuge in the perfect words of Allah from the evil of what He has created.

Dua of the traveler for those left behind

أَسْتَوْدِعُكُمُ اللَّهَ الَّذِي لَا تَضِيعُ وَدَائِعُهُ

Transliteration

Astawdi'ukumullahal-ladhi la tadi'u wada'i'uh

Translation

I entrust you to Allah, Whose trusts are never lost.

Dua for the traveler (by resident)

أَسْتَوْدِعُ اللَّهَ دِينَكَ وَأَمَانَتَكَ وَخَوَاتِيمَ عَمَلِكَ

Transliteration

Astawdi'ullaha dinaka wa amanataka wa khawatima 'amalik

Translation

I entrust to Allah your religion, your trusts, and the ends of your deeds.

Dua when returning from travel

آيِبُونَ تَائِبُونَ عَابِدُونَ لِرَبِّنَا حَامِدُونَ

Transliteration

Ayibuna ta'ibuna 'abiduna li-Rabbina hamidun

Translation

We return repentant, worshipping and praising our Lord.

Dua at high and low points of the journey

كَانَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ إِذَا عَلَوْا كَبَّرُوا وَإِذَا نَزَلُوا سَبَّحُوا — اللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ، سُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ

Transliteration

Allahu Akbar (when ascending), Subhanallah (when descending)

Translation

When the Prophet (peace be upon him) and his companions ascended they would say "Allah is the Greatest", and when they descended they would say "Glory be to Allah".
