Marvel at the originality of creation.

Al-Badee'
The Incomparable Originator
The root. Al-Badee' comes from b-d-ʿ, a root meaning to originate something without any prior model to copy — ibdāʿ is the standard modern Arabic word for creativity precisely because of this sense, making something genuinely new rather than assembling it from existing parts. Badīʿ is the intensive form, describing something originated in a way that is itself wonderful or unprecedented, carrying both the sense of "first cause" and the sense of "astonishing" in the same word.
What it means here. Al-Badee' is read as the one who brought the heavens and the earth into being with no prior pattern, no raw material borrowed from somewhere else, and no example to follow — creation from nothing rather than the shaping of something that already existed. It differs from Al-Khaliq, "the Creator," in what it emphasizes: Al-Khaliq names the act of bringing something into existence generally, while Al-Badee' names the originality of that act specifically, the absence of precedent behind it.
Where it is met. Al-Badee' appears twice in the Quran, both times in the same construction, "Originator of the heavens and the earth" — Surah Al-Baqarah 2:117 and Surah Al-An'am 6:101. Both verses use the name to answer a specific claim: 2:117 follows a rejection of the idea that Allah has taken a son, and 6:101 makes the same point explicitly, asking how He could have a child when He has no companion and originated all things without precedent to begin with.
