All benefit flows from His will.
النَّافِع
An-Nafi'
The Benefactor
The root. An-Nafi' comes from n-f-ʿ, a root meaning benefit or usefulness — naf' is the noun for benefit itself, and manfaʿa names a specific advantage gained from something. Nāfiʿ is the active participle, "the one who benefits," the mirror image of ḍārr built on the identical fā'il pattern — the two names sharing a grammatical shape as deliberately as they share a place in the same phrase throughout the Quran.
What it means here. An-Nafi' is read as the source of every real benefit, however ordinary it looks — food that nourishes, knowledge that helps, a cure that works are each read as reaching a person only because Allah has made them effective, not because the food, the knowledge, or the medicine carries power of its own. Like Ad-Darr, it is read almost exclusively alongside its counterpart rather than in isolation, the pairing itself carrying the point that both capacities rest in the same hand.
Where it is met. The exact word An-Nafi' does not appear as a name of Allah in the Quran. What recurs is the same pairing found under Ad-Darr — nafʿan wa lā ḍarran, "benefit nor harm" — in Surah Al-A'raf 7:188, where the Prophet ﷺ himself is instructed to say he holds no power of benefit or harm for himself except what Allah wills, and in Ar-Ra'd 13:16 and Saba 34:42, describing anything taken as a protector besides Allah. The principle the name expresses is stated repeatedly; the noun-form title itself is not used of Allah directly.
