Al-Khabeer

The All-Aware

Comfort that Allah knows every hidden matter.

The root. Al-Khabeer comes from kh-b-r, the root behind khubr (intimate, tested knowledge of a thing's inner reality) and khabar (a report, news brought from where something happened). Where ʿilm is knowledge in the general sense, this root carries knowledge gained by reaching into a matter and coming out familiar with what lies beneath its surface — the kind of knowing a person has of a place they have lived in, not merely heard of. Al-Khabeer is shaped on the faʿīl pattern, naming this depth of awareness as constant rather than acquired case by case.

What it means here. Al-Khabeer is read as the awareness that reaches the inner reality of every matter — not only what happens, but what lies behind it, the intentions, the causes, the hidden condition of a heart. It is Allah's most frequent Quranic companion for two other names in turn: paired with Al-Hakeem, it grounds His wisdom in an awareness that misses nothing beneath the surface; paired with Al-Lateef, it shows that the same fine reach that perceives what is hidden is also what allows His kindness to arrive so precisely.

Where it is met. Al-Khabeer appears repeatedly with Al-Hakeem across Surah Al-An'am and the opening of Surah Saba, with Al-Lateef in Surah Al-An'am and Surah Al-Mulk, and once with Al-Alim in Surah At-Tahrim, where the Prophet tells his wife that the All-Knowing, All-Aware had informed him of what she had said in confidence. Surah Al-Adiyat closes with the plain statement that on that Day, their Lord is fully aware of them.
