Food is read by what it is, who it is with, and whether it is eaten. Plentiful, wholesome food is the settled reading: blessing, ease in living, and a gathering that holds people together. Eating alone what was meant for many was read the other way — a benefit narrowed by the one who has it. Feeding others is the strongest of the good readings in this chapter, and several of the older interpreters preferred it to eating oneself. Sweet food is read as words and dealings that leave a good taste; bitter or spoiled food as something taken that does not agree with the taker. Being unable to eat, or food withheld points to a provision present but not reached — the interpreters read that as an obstruction to look at rather than a refusal. Raw or uncooked food was read as a matter not yet ready to be taken up. Food that never runs out was read as blessing in a small thing, which is a familiar idea in the sources.
Nothing here is analogy: food in the dream is provision, and the language treats it that way already — rizq covers the food on the table and the livelihood that put it there without any shift in meaning. The reading that sharing is better than eating is not sentiment either; it follows the plain place hospitality holds in the tradition, where food is the ordinary measure of a person's generosity and of the strength of a household.
A dream of abundant food is not a promise of money and a dream of empty plates is not a warning of want. It is not a ruling. Hunger, fasting, illness and a late meal all produce food dreams with nothing attached to them, and most of what a sleeper sees is the day he has just finished. If the dream troubled you, seek refuge in Allah, turn onto your other side, and keep it to yourself.

Dream interpretations are drawn from classical Islamic sources where one exists, and otherwise from general symbolism. They are guidance, never a ruling. Allah knows best.
