Dreaming of Utensils in Islam

Vessels are read by what is in them and by their condition, not by the object itself. Clean, full vessels set out is the settled favourable form: a household in order and provision that is not merely present but arranged and ready to be used. Empty vessels, or a kitchen with nothing in it turns the reading toward provision thinning, or a household running on appearances — the older interpreters read emptiness here as lack of management as much as lack of goods. A broken or cracked vessel is read as something in the household that no longer holds what is put into it: a trust not kept, or a person unable to carry what has been given them. Washing and putting vessels away points to an affair being settled and closed properly. Borrowing a vessel from a neighbour was read as needing what another household has, and returning it as a debt discharged. A vessel of gold or silver was read with reserve, as display exceeding the substance behind it.

The reading rests on a plain Arabic sense that the interpreters used directly: a vessel is known by what comes out of it, and the proverb that every vessel seeps what is inside it is ordinary speech, not a specialist's rule. So the utensil in a dream stands for the keeper of a house and the state of what is stored there. Vessels also carry a settled positive association from the descriptions of Paradise, where dishes and cups are passed round, as in az-Zukhruf 43:71.

None of this is a ruling and none of it is a forecast about money, a marriage, or a household. It does not name who keeps the house well or badly. Cooking, guests expected, a move, or worry about the month's expenses put these images into sleep with nothing behind them. If the dream left you uneasy, the guidance is to seek refuge in Allah from what troubled you, turn onto your other side, and not to relate what you saw.
