Dreaming of Yarn in Islam

Yarn is read by whether it holds together and by what is being done with it. Spinning yarn evenly is the settled favourable form: patient work whose result accumulates, and an affair being built strand by strand rather than at once. Untangling a knotted mass is read as a complication being resolved by effort, and the older readings valued the patience in it more than the outcome. Yarn that keeps knotting no matter what turns the reading toward a matter the dreamer is handling in a way that adds to the tangle. Unravelling thread that was already spun is read gravely: work undone by the same hand that did it, which is the sharpest reading this symbol carries. A long thread running out of sight was read as a journey or an affair extending well beyond where the dreamer can see. Thread breaking mid-work points to a connection or an undertaking cut before completion, and the older sources looked at whether it could be tied again.

The Qur'an supplies the image exactly. In an-Nahl 16:92 the command is not to be like the woman who unravelled her yarn into loose strands after it had been spun strong — a picture of effort deliberately destroyed by the one who made it, used there for oaths broken after being given. That verse is why unravelling carries far more weight in this symbol than tangling does, and why spinning is read as the building of something real out of a great many small acts.

No dream here rules on a relationship, a contract or a promise, and none of it forecasts an outcome. It does not tell you which matter is tangled. Handwork, a difficult negotiation, an obligation you are turning over, and simple mental fatigue all put threads and knots into sleep. If the dream distressed you, the taught response is to seek refuge in Allah from it, turn onto your other side, and not to speak of it to anyone.
