Animal-derived
Comes from an animal. Whether it is permitted follows the animal itself and how it was slaughtered, so certification is what answers it.
Made by boiling animal skin and bone — most commonly pork, sometimes beef. Beef gelatine is permissible only if the animal was slaughtered according to Islamic requirements, so a halal certificate is the only reliable signal. Fish gelatine also exists.
