A dream of jinn is read by what happens, and the older interpreters handled the chapter with more caution than most. Seeing jinn without contact or harm is read as a preoccupation the dreamer is carrying — a fear, a suspicion, something unresolved that has taken a shape in sleep. Being spoken to is read as words heard in waking life whose source you do not trust; the interpreters read the content and the effect, never treating the speech as information. Being chased or frightened is read as a pressure in the dreamer's own circumstances rather than as an attack. Seeking refuge in Allah within the dream, or reciting, is the strongest reading in the whole chapter and the one the sources treat as a good sign: the response was right, and that is what is being read. Jinn in a house or a place was read as unease attaching to that place — often a place the dreamer already dislikes being. Jinn taking a human form is read as a person whose face and intent do not agree.
The word carries its own explanation. The Arabic root of jinn means to cover or conceal — the same root gives janīn, the child hidden in the womb, and jannah, a garden hidden under its own foliage. Jinn are, in the plainest sense of their name, the concealed. That is why the interpreters read them as what is hidden from the dreamer: a worry not admitted, a matter whose cause he cannot see. The Qur'an devotes a surah to them and prescribes seeking refuge from what is unseen, which is where the reading about protection comes from.
This dream frightens people, so it must be said flatly: a dream of jinn is not evidence that anyone is possessed, not proof of magic, and not a sign that you or your house are afflicted. It is not a ruling, and no one should be paid to remove anything on account of it. The tradition is explicit that a frightening dream is not a message. Seek refuge in Allah, turn onto your other side, do not relate it to anyone — and take the same protection you would take on any ordinary night.

Dream interpretations are drawn from classical Islamic sources where one exists, and otherwise from general symbolism. They are guidance, never a ruling. Allah knows best.
