Dreaming of Kiss in Islam

A kiss is read by whom it is given to and in what manner, and the classical readings are almost entirely about respect rather than desire. Kissing the hand or head of an elder, a parent or a teacher is the plainest good reading: benefit received from that person, or a need met through them. Being kissed by someone reverses the direction — goodwill arriving toward the dreamer, often from a quarter they did not expect. A kiss between spouses is read as affection in its lawful place and as a matter settling well between them. Kissing someone in anger, or a kiss that felt wrong, is read as flattery: an approach made for something other than what it appears to be, and the older interpreters were direct about this. Kissing a child is read as tenderness toward what one is responsible for. Kissing a person one has a dispute with was read as reconciliation, or as an attempt at it. Refusing a kiss points to a benefit declined or a closeness the dreamer is not willing to accept.

The kiss in this tradition is a gesture of honour before it is anything else — hands and heads are kissed as an acknowledgement of standing, the way the Black Stone is kissed as an act of following rather than of feeling. From there the interpretation follows naturally: a kiss is something asked for or something granted, so the dream is read as a need, a favour, or a debt of respect between two people.

A dream of a kiss is not news about anyone's feelings toward you, not a sign about a marriage, and not a ruling — least of all a permission. Nothing lawful becomes lawful, and nothing unlawful becomes less so, because of a dream. Longing and estrangement both produce this dream easily.
