A mosque is read by its state and by what the dreamer does inside it. Entering a mosque is read as entering into safety, or into an affair conducted honourably. Praying in it among others shifts the reading toward a company one belongs to and a matter settled by agreement rather than alone. Building or repairing a mosque is among the strongest good readings in the chapter: something established that outlasts the one who established it. A mosque that is spacious, clean and lit carries the reading plainly; one that is ruined, locked or empty of people is read as a neglect — and the older interpreters put that neglect in the dreamer's own practice or in his people's, not in any building. Sweeping or cleaning a mosque is read as removing from a good matter what has no business in it. Being unable to find the qibla while inside points to confusion about direction in something the dreamer already takes to be right. Being turned away at the door was read as an obstacle the dreamer has placed himself, and the careful interpreters refused to read it as a rejection.
The word masjid is simply the place of sujud, prostration — it names an act, not an architecture. That is why the readings attach to what is done there rather than to the building. The Qur'an speaks of the mosques of Allah being tended by those who believe in Allah and the Last Day (at-Tawba 9:18); the tending, not the stone, is what the verse is about, and the interpretations follow it.
A dream of a ruined mosque is not a judgement on anyone's faith, and a dream of building one is not evidence that the dreamer's deeds are accepted. No one's religion is measured by what he saw in sleep. The dream establishes no ruling and foretells nothing. If it left you uneasy, the taught response holds: seek refuge in Allah, turn onto your other side, and do not relate it to anyone.

Dream interpretations are drawn from classical Islamic sources where one exists, and otherwise from general symbolism. They are guidance, never a ruling. Allah knows best.
