About this dream

Anger in a dream — what does it mean in Islam?

Anger is read first by what it was over, then by what was done with it. Anger for the sake of Allah — at a wrong seen, at something plainly forbidden — is read as honour and as a right defended. Anger over a worldly matter turns the other way: agitation that costs the dreamer something, or a decision taken where it should not have been taken. Anger swallowed and let go is the best reading in the chapter, and it is not a stretch: restraint is praised outright in the Qur'an. Anger that becomes striking, cursing or breaking is read as a regret prepared for oneself. Seeing someone else angry at the dreamer shifts the dream onto that relationship and onto something owed or left unsaid. Anger with no cause the dreamer can name was read as a burden carried without being examined. Anger that passes quickly and ends in reconciliation is read as a dispute that will not settle into anything.

Anger: where does this meaning come from?

The Arabic ghadab is anger as a rising — the same root gives the sense of a thing swelling up — and the interpretation follows that: what rises either passes or overflows. The Qur'an describes the God-fearing as those who restrain their anger and pardon people (Al Imran 3:134), and the interpreters read the dream against that verse, which is why holding anger back is read better than being right in it.

Anger in a dream — is it a bad sign?

A dream of anger is not a prediction of a quarrel and not a verdict on anyone's character — least of all the character of the person you dreamed was angry. It settles no dispute and carries no ruling. Anger carried to bed produces this dream on its own, without any meaning attaching to it. If the dream disturbed you, seek refuge in Allah, turn onto your other side, and leave it untold.

Dream interpretations are drawn from classical Islamic sources where one exists, and otherwise from general symbolism. They are guidance, never a ruling. Allah knows best.
