Dreaming of Egg in Islam

The egg is read by its state and by what happens to it. Whole, clean eggs are the settled reading: provision that is present but not yet opened — a thing whose good is real and still ahead. Many eggs were read as wealth that needs time and care before it comes to anything, which is why the older interpreters attached patience to this symbol rather than sudden increase. An egg that hatches is read as the matter arriving, and one that breaks and spills as something spoiled before its time. Eating eggs is read as taking a lawful, quiet provision. Finding eggs in a nest is read as good in the household; taking them from a nest as benefit gained at someone else's cost, and the older readings did not treat that kindly. A rotten egg is a promise with nothing inside it. Eggs given to you are something entrusted rather than earned.

The thing itself carries the meaning and no etymology is needed: an egg is a good that is entirely concealed, entirely fragile, and useless if opened early. It is the plainest available image of something whose worth depends on being left alone to complete. The Qur'an uses the same quality for concealment and protection when it likens the companions of Paradise to sheltered eggs (as-Saffat 37:49) — what is precious is what is kept covered.

An egg dream is not a pregnancy, not an announcement, and not a promise of money. People trying to conceive dream of eggs and of nests because they are thinking of them, and that is the ordinary explanation before any other. It carries no ruling and decides nothing. If a dream leaves you troubled, the guidance is unchanged: seek refuge in Allah, turn onto your other side, and leave it untold.
