A throne is read by who sits on it and how it is come by. Sitting on a throne with people present is the familiar form and was read as rank, or as being put in charge of a matter — the older readings tied it to responsibility more often than to glory. Being raised onto a throne by someone else is read as honour given rather than seized, which was considered the sounder of the two. Climbing onto a throne that is not yours turns the reading toward reaching for a place the dreamer has no claim to, and the interpreters read the result of the climb as part of the dream. An empty throne is read as authority vacant: a matter with no one answering for it. A throne that breaks or tips over points to a position resting on something weaker than it looks. Standing beside a throne rather than on it is read as influence without office, which the older sources sometimes considered the safer place.
The clearest reference is in Yusuf 12:100, where Yusuf raises his parents onto the throne after the long years of separation, and the moment is one of honour restored and family reunited rather than of power taken. Alongside it, the throne of the queen described in an-Naml 27:23 is a great throne belonging to someone who rules by counsel. So the interpreters read the seat as position and answerability together — the place from which decisions are owed.
This is not a prediction of promotion, office, wealth or standing, and it settles no competition you are in. It is not a ruling. Ambition, a job you are waiting to hear about, a family dispute over who decides, and simple watching of stories about kings all put a throne into sleep unaided. If the dream unsettled you rather than pleased you, the taught response is to seek refuge in Allah from what troubled you, turn onto your other side, and not to speak of it.

Dream interpretations are drawn from classical Islamic sources where one exists, and otherwise from general symbolism. They are guidance, never a ruling. Allah knows best.
