A voice is read by its quality, its source, and whether the dreamer answers it. A beautiful voice heard clearly is the settled favourable form: a good name that travels, or words that will be received well by those who matter. Hearing your name called without seeing who calls was read as a summons to a matter the dreamer already knows about — the interpreters treated it as something owed rather than something threatened. A harsh, raised or braying voice carries the opposite sense and was read as a person whose speech brings harm regardless of what he intends by it. Losing your voice, or shouting with no sound coming is read as a claim the dreamer cannot make heard, which is a dream of position rather than of the throat. Hearing the call to prayer is read apart from the rest, as guidance and as a matter arriving at its proper time. A voice you recognise but cannot place was read as advice available from the dreamer's own past.
The Qur'an itself ranks voices. Luqman instructs his son to lower his voice, and the passage in Luqman 31:19 names the braying of the donkey as the most disagreeable of sounds — so volume, in that image, is the opposite of authority. Set against it is the call to prayer, a raised voice whose whole purpose is to gather people to something good. The interpreters read the dream between those two poles: a voice is what a person's speech does to others, not the sound itself.
Hearing a voice in a dream is not a message, not an instruction and not a sign that anyone is calling you. It obliges nothing and predicts nothing. Sleeping lightly, sounds from the street, an argument the day before, and grief that makes a familiar voice surface all account for it entirely. If the voice frightened you, the response taught is to seek refuge in Allah, turn onto your other side, and not to relate the dream to anyone.

Dream interpretations are drawn from classical Islamic sources where one exists, and otherwise from general symbolism. They are guidance, never a ruling. Allah knows best.
