The beard is read by its length, its condition, and what is done to it. A full, well-kept beard of the right measure is the good reading throughout: dignity, standing among people, a livelihood that is settled. A beard grown excessively long, to the point of being unmanageable, was read the other way by the older interpreters — as a burden of debt or of concerns grown past their owner. A thin or patchy beard is read as a standing not yet established. A beard turning grey was read as gravity and restraint rather than as decline, and the sources treat grey hair itself as something honoured rather than hidden. Having the beard shaved or pulled out against one's will is the harshest reading in the chapter — a loss of face, a public humiliation, or wealth taken. Trimming it oneself reverses that: putting an affair in order, paying what is owed. Seeing a beard on a woman or a child was read as something out of its place, a role taken up by one not made for it.
The association is social rather than linguistic, and it is worth saying so plainly. In the world the interpretations came from, the beard was the visible mark of a man having reached his standing — it is what a boy did not have and a man did, and honour and shame both attached to it, which is why Arabic swears by the beard and why touching another man's is an insult. The readings follow that fact and not an etymology.
A dream about a beard is not a ruling on whether to keep or shave one; that is a question of law and of the scholars, not of sleep. It is not a prediction of wealth or of loss either. Most of what is seen at night is the sleeper's own day. If the dream disturbed you, seek refuge in Allah, turn onto your other side, and leave it untold.

Dream interpretations are drawn from classical Islamic sources where one exists, and otherwise from general symbolism. They are guidance, never a ruling. Allah knows best.
