Dreaming of Bee in Islam

The bee is read by its number, its work, and whether it harms. A single bee is read as a diligent person whose benefit is quiet and steady. A swarm settling on a place is read as a company gathered on work — good if they are orderly, and the older readings turned it toward armies or crowds when the swarm was frightening rather than busy. Bees entering the house is read as provision arriving through effort rather than through luck. Taking honey from the comb is lawful gain got with some trouble, and the trouble is part of the reading; honey taken without any sting or difficulty was read as a benefit received from another's labour. Being stung is read as a small harm from a quarter that is ordinarily useful — a hurtful word from a decent person, not an enemy. Killing bees or driving them off is read as cutting off a benefit at its source. Bees over crops or blossom carries the plainest good reading of all.

This symbol does not need to be argued for. The Qur'an gives the bee a surah of its own by name and says that Allah revealed to the bee, and that from its bellies comes a drink of varying colours in which there is healing for people (an-Nahl 16:68-69). Everything the interpreters read into it — industry, lawful earning, healing, sweetness that costs something — is in those verses or in the plain habits of the animal: it gathers from many places and produces one clean thing.

A dream of bees is not a promise of money and a sting in a dream is not a warning of harm from anyone in particular. Naming a person from it has spoiled more than it has protected. It is not a ruling and not news of what is coming. If the dream unsettled you — swarms frighten people, and that alone is enough to produce it — seek refuge in Allah, turn onto your other side, and do not relate it.
