Dates are read by their state and by what is done with them. Ripe, sweet dates eaten with enjoyment are the settled reading: lawful provision, words of remembrance, a benefit that tastes clean. Dates handed to you by someone are read as a good arriving through that person rather than earned, and the reading follows who they were. Giving dates away turns it around: the same good passed on, as charity, as teaching, as a kindness done quietly. Dry, bitter or spoiled dates reverse the symbol toward provision with something wrong inside it, or toward speech that promises sweetness and does not carry any. Gathering dates from the palm has been read as effort that yields, since the fruit is reached for rather than found. Dates out of season were read as a good arriving at an unlikely time. A palm tree rather than the fruit shifts the reading to a person of standing whose benefit others live on.
The palm is not chosen at random. When Maryam is in labour and at the end of her strength, she is told to shake the trunk of the palm toward herself and fresh ripe dates fall (Maryam 19:25) — provision arriving precisely where ability has run out. The Qur'an names the palm repeatedly among the signs of what the earth is given. And a fruit that is sweet, small, keeps for a year and opens the fast every evening needs no further argument for standing in for blessed sustenance.
A dream of dates is not a promise of money and not a guarantee of anything. Dreams do not commit Allah to a provision, and the tradition is firm that a dream is not a ruling. Much of what is seen in sleep is the day repeating itself. Should a dream leave you uneasy, seek refuge in Allah, turn onto your other side, and keep it to yourself.

Dream interpretations are drawn from classical Islamic sources where one exists, and otherwise from general symbolism. They are guidance, never a ruling. Allah knows best.
