Dreaming of Zigzag in Islam

The reading is about the shape of the route, not about confusion. Walking a zigzag path and still arriving is the plain favourable form, read as an aim reached by a longer way than the dreamer intended, and the older interpreters were clear that arriving is what carries the meaning. A zigzag climbing a slope is read as a route that is indirect for a reason, since the turns are what make the height possible at all. A zigzag with no visible end turns the reading toward effort the dreamer cannot yet measure, and it was read as a call for patience rather than as a warning. Trying to walk it straight, cutting across the turns is read as haste that costs more than it saves. A zigzag line drawn or written rather than walked is read as a matter recorded as unsettled: something that has not yet found its direct form. Someone else walking ahead of you on the same path is read as a way already proven by another.

There is no idiom or verse behind this one, and it should not be given one. The interpreters connected it to the plain fact of mountain roads: on any steep ground the direct line is the one that cannot be walked, and the switchback is not a detour but the only usable route. Read that way, the zigzag says something specific about difficulty rather than merely about delay, which is why the readings above weigh the arrival rather than the wandering.

This dream does not predict a delay, does not confirm that a plan will succeed, and is not guidance on whether to keep going or stop. It is not a ruling. A long project, a process with unclear stages, or simple tiredness with a slow matter will produce it. If a dream leaves you discouraged or afraid, the taught response is to seek refuge in Allah from its harm, turn onto your other side, and to leave it unspoken rather than carry it into the day.
